What to do if you have concerns of wrongdoing within Phoenix Group

Speak Up is Phoenix Group's 'whistleblowing' process that provides confidential and anonymous ways to raise concerns about a risk, malpractice or wrongdoing.  Speaking Up could be about something you feel is, or may be a breach of our Code of Conduct or appears illegal, criminal or unethical.

We take any concerns regarding wrongdoing at Phoenix Group extremely seriously. Telling us about concerns you have can provide invaluable opportunities to help us identify poor practices and make improvements for the benefit of all. Speaking Up is not just available to our colleagues - our Speak Up process is open to everyone including customers, suppliers and members of the general public.

Any concern you choose to raise, will be treated in the strictest of confidence and your identity, if you choose to make it known to us, will be protected (unless it has to be revealed by law or you are happy it be made known).

We have zero-tolerance for individuals experiencing detriment as a result of raising genuine concerns. We want to hear when things are not right so we can take the right corrective action – See It, Report It.

How to report a concern

We understand that people communicate in different ways so we offer a number of options for how you can let us know when something isn’t right, you can:

  • Email our confidential mailbox speakup@thephoenixgroup.com
  • Write to us at Speak Up Office, The Phoenix Group, 20 Old Bailey, City of London, EC4M 7AN (mark your letter Strictly Confidential)
  • Call our confidential hotline 0800 915 1571 (UK only *)
  • Complete our confidential webform at Safecall
  • Both our hotline and webform are hosted by Safecall, our external Speak Up partner. All data and information shared with Safecall is handled with the strictest confidentiality.

You may raise your concerns anonymously

Raising a concern anonymously may give you a greater sense of comfort but there are some points you should consider before making that choice:

  • It may limit our abilities to fully investigate your concerns as we often find we benefit from being able to seek further information from the person making a report
  • We will be unable to share with you the outcomes or findings of our investigation
  • It will be harder for us to take steps to protect you from any detrimental treatment as a whistleblower
  • You may not be able to benefit from legal protection from detriments under the Public Interest Disclosure Act

If you feel more comfortable raising your concerns anonymously, please do so by either of the Safecall options above.

You also have the option of revealing your identity to Safecall but not to Phoenix Group. This option means we will be able to update you, via Safecall, on our progress and ask you further questions if needed to aid any investigation.

You also have the option of reporting concerns directly to any of our Regulators.

What happens next

On receipt of your concern, we review the issue and determine how best to look into it. If you disclose your identity to Safecall or us directly, we may contact you to ask that you provide additional information to help us investigate your concern as thoroughly as possible. Where appropriate we will keep you up to date with the investigation and advise you of its completion.
