Life and pension firm Phoenix Group based in Wythall, partnered with Ark Kings Academy in Kings Norton in 2016 to help raise literacy levels in their local community. A new school library named after the Group was launched this week celebrating achievements to date, and marking the continued support that will be available to the Academy’s pupils and staff.
Staff volunteers from Phoenix meet with pupils on a weekly basis through their ‘reading buddy’ scheme, encouraging the love of reading. The Group is one of fifty one businesses signed up for the 2017 Vision for Literacy Business Pledge. A framework designed to aid companies to take action to help raise literacy levels and boost social mobility.
Through its partnership, the Group has contributed towards literacy resources, equipping the school with materials to help break down any barriers to learning and assisting those in need. The ‘Phoenix Library’ was designed by the Group and is in keeping with Ark Kings’ brand.
