March 2014 - Business Charity Awards

Business Charity Awards logo.Phoenix Group is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted in Charity Partnership Short-term category in the 2014 Business Charity Awards, for its partnership with Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice during 2013. Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in May.

March 2014 - Tidbury Green School

Never Give UpThe Group has forged links with Tidbury Green School based in the community close to its Wythall office. Regular meetings are held to identify how they can collectively assist each other, utilising the skills and resources to hand. £1,000 was donated to the school to assist them with the refurbishment of a new science lab for their 230 pupils onsite.

Mrs McHale, Headmistress commented “It is great to be working with local employer Phoenix Group, on initiatives which will benefit the pupils now and in the future. This donation will kick-start our fundraising for the new science lab.”

April 2014 - Charity Launch

Phoenix Group's staff in London and Wythall voted for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and London's Air Ambulance as their charities to support during 2014.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is a medical air emergency service covering six counties across the Midlands region, an area over 5,000 miles and serving 5.8 million people. Visit their website for more information.

London's Air Ambulance is the registered charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London, serving the 10 million people who live, work and commute within the M25. Visit their website for more information.

May 2014 - Woodrush RFC

Phoenix Group signage at Woodrush RFC. The Woodrush mini and junior teams have now come to the end of their 2013-2014 season.  Over 130 children have been involved from the local community in this club.

Phoenix Group have supported Woodrush RFC with sponsorship, which funded their U15's team with playing shirts, and co-sponsorship of their U13's team polo shirts. A sign has been displayed at their ground on big game and award days, showing Phoenix Group as a sponsor and supportive company in the local community.

May 2014 - Meadow Green Primary School

Phoenix Group has forged links with Meadow Green Primary School, as one of the schools based closest to its Wythall office.  Phoenix opened its doors and offered meeting room space to the school to conduct a series of head teacher interviews, away from the school setting.  In addition £1,000 was donated to assist the school with its fundraising efforts.

May 2014 - Midlands Air Ambulance / London's Air Ambulance

A team of 10 will be embarking on the 'three peaks challenge' in June, attempting to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in under
24 hours.  Ahead of this they arranged a fundraising 'walkathon' at Phoenix's office in Wythall making use of treadmills in the coffee area. They recruited staff volunteers to walk the 42km distance, equivalent to that they will do on the exercise.

The event was a success and helped raise awareness of the Group's chosen charities of the year, as representatives were on hand at the event, supporting the walkers and selling cakes.

May 2014 - Give and Gain Day

A team of staff volunteers from our London office got involved in Business in the Community's national day of employee volunteering 'Give and Gain Day 2014' by supporting Sportsinspired.

The purpose of the event was to inspire young people through discovering sport.  The day involved 250 pupils from schools based in the Hackney area.  Phoenix Group volunteers joined other company volunteers and encouraged the pupils to get involved and try something new.  Sports on offer ranged from cricket, touch rugby, athletics, football, basketball to volleyball.

One Phoenix volunteer commented "Give and Gain was an absolutely amazing opportunity to give something back to our local community.  It looked as though the children had a fun time playing the different sports, and it was great to be involved in this event."

May 2014 - Give and Gain Day

Wythall staff volunteered at SIFA Fireside Centre, a local charity which works with those aged 18 and over, to tackle homelessness and alcohol misuse issues.  Staff assisted with serving breakfast and lunch to over 100 people, which gave staff an insight into the service many come to rely on in our local community.

June 2014 - Midlands Air Ambulance / London's Air Ambulance

A team of 14 from Wythall and London bravely abseiled 283 feet (or 17 floors) down the Royal London Hospital from Europe's tallest helipad, in aid of charity.  Together the team raised over £8,000 for Midlands Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance.

June 2014 - Community Litter Pick

16 members of staff from the Tax team at Wythall, took to the streets collecting litter in its local community. 11 bags of rubbish were collected over the course of the afternoon.

This initiative was only made possible through partnership with Bromsgrove District Council, who donated litter-picking and safety equipment for the event.

Peter Brown, Waste Awareness Officer for Bromsgrove District Council said: “We are pleased to have worked with Phoenix Group on this project to make the local community a better place to live and work.  We are all accountable for our environment, especially for the sake of future generations, so it is great that Phoenix Group have taken steps to fulfil their responsibility as a corporation.  We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

June 2014 - Midlands Air Ambulance / London's Air Ambulance

Staff participated in two separate challenges on the bike, raising valuable funds for our chosen charities of the year - Midlands Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance. 

4 members of staff took on the Yorkshire leg of the 'Tour de France' and cycled a total of 190km.  Whilst another member of staff and friend embarked on the Land's End to John O'Groats Challenge, cycling 1011 miles in 10 days.  Together these challenges raised over £2,700 for Midlands Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance.

July 2014 - Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run

Phoenix Group were the premier sponsor of the 'Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run', which included a 10km, 5km and 1.5km fun run in support of the
local community. The race entered the Phoenix Group grounds in Wythall, promoting our presence in the local community.

July 2014 - Midlands Air Ambulance / London's Air Ambulance

Five HR team members raised around £3,000 for our air ambulance charities in an experience of a lifetime.

They embarked on a 15 minute flight before exiting the plane from a height of nearly 2 miles.  A 45 second free-fall followed with speed in excess of 120mph - finishing with a 5 minute parachute descent.

August 2014 - Money Charity

14 staff volunteers from our Wythall site have been trained by The Money Charity to deliver financial education to 11-16 year olds in local schools from September!

The Money Charity is the UK’s financial capability charity.  Their vision is for everyone to be on top of their money as part of everyday life. So through training, they aim to empower students to build the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to make the most of their money throughout their lives.

During our last partnership staff volunteers delivered 33 workshops, reaching over 800 pupils!

September 2014 - Midlands Air Ambulance / London's Air Ambulance

558 members of staff pledged to take part in our 4th annual 'Phoenix Mile' fundraiser, where staff completed the one mile their way.  Many staff joined in the workplace organised miles at both our London and Wythall sites, by either running or walking the course.  £5,580 was donated by the Company to our chosen charities of the year - Midlands Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance.  Representatives from both air ambulance charities joined in the 'Phoenix Mile' at both sites.

October 2014 - Community Litter Pick

Staff volunteers from the Wythall site participated in 'The Big Tidy Up' charity campaign, by litter picking in their local community.  This initiative was co-ordinated in association with 'Keep Britain Tidy' and 'Bromsgrove District Council'.

Lucy Symonds, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Phoenix Group commented “It was a great opportunity to be involved in this volunteering exercise.  Members of the local community who stopped to talk were genuinely pleased the Group was making a difference.”

November 2014 – Business Charity Awards

Phoenix Group is proud to announce that it has been nominated for a ‘Best National Business Partnership Award’, for its partnership with Trinity Hospice in 2013. Winners will be announced at the Trinity Star Ball in November.

Ben Morrison, Corporate Fundraiser at Trinity Hospice commented “Phoenix Group formed an incredible charity
of the year partnership and raised over £48,000, enough to fund a Trinity nurse for 11 months.”
